Alumni and Friends of Principia
Jonathan Palmer became President of Principia College in 2008 and took on an additional role as Chief Executive of Principia in July 2009.
Dr. Palmer (C’78) and his wife, Sue (Ferguson, C’79), reside in Hutchinson House on the College campus. They have a daughter, Katie Sheridan (US’05, C’09), and a son, Jeremy.
In a follow-up to the Board’s announcement that Dr. Palmer would be Principia’s next Chief Executive, Dr. Palmer commented on his new position: “The goal in combining the two posts is to make Principia an even more responsive, nimble, adaptable organization. The move should both reduce coordination costs and offer the potential for streamlining reporting, decision-making, and communication while eliminating unnecessary duplication or repetition of effort.”
Before coming to Principia in 2008, Palmer served as associate dean for academic affairs and a tenured professor at the Mason School of Business at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. A 1978 graduate of Principia College, Palmer received an M.S. from Simmons College in 1979, an M.B.A. from Babson College in 1984, and a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University in 1995.
