Athletics

“High minded and hard fighting” . . . The Principia athletics motto demonstrates that we strive for an excellence beyond winning.

In fact, sports at Principia are all about growth—in skill and competitiveness, in persistence and patience, and in physical and spiritual strength. Our coaches focus on teamwork, perseverance, and character. Training is vigorous and practices are regular—that’s how our student-athletes master their chosen sport and improve their ability to compete effectively.

Upper School Sports

All Upper School students are required to take part in a physical activity during all three sports seasons—and may choose from among 17 interscholastic sports or from a menu of classes that includes PE, dance, and POMS, among other options. JV and varsity programs focus on teamwork, perseverance, and character, with vigorous training and regular practices. All varsity and JV students have the opportunity to compete in the seven-school Metro League. (When numbers require, we organize additional teams so that every interested student can participate.)

Middle School Sports

The Middle School athletics program provides an introduction to interscholastic sports. Coaches focus on skills development, fitness, and the enjoyment and responsibilities of being on a team. Demonstrating the ability to overcome self-imposed limitations, rising higher in thought and action, and facing challenges with conviction—all integral components of a Principia education—are some of the lessons students learn in Middle School athletics. In each sport, coaches foster team spirit through hard work, pure motives, sportsmanship, and the demonstration of Christian Science.
