Lab Reservations

Faculty/Staff Training Labs: Elsah and St. Louis

Purpose
Training labs for the Faculty and Staff of The Principia have been established on each campus to provide a place for computer software and telephone training for both individual and group sessions to support our goal to further personal development.

Usage of Room
It will be the standard procedure for these labs to be used by Faculty and Staff. The labs may be used for training or work-related projects, including group online demonstrations and bi-campus meetings.  Individuals may use the lab as a quiet place to work when it is not scheduled for group sessions.  The labs should be unlocked during normal business hours.

Scheduling
Labs are available for individual or group use on both campuses as follows:
St. Louis: Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Tuesday and Thursday reserved for Trainer)

St Louis has 2 Training Labs:  One in the Upper School adjacent to the Academic Dean’s office; and one on the terrace floor of the Business Building.

Elsah: Tuesday, Thursday and Friday

Elsah has 1 Training Lab located in the refurbished Watson wing on the end closest to Leonard Hall.  Contact the Academic Technology Coordinator at x5132 or Technical Support at x5125 to retrieve the key to the lectern.

To avoid conflicts in planning a group session, please reserve lab time through Outlook.  The Business Office Training Lab is listed on the Global Address List as “StL Business Office Training Lab”.  The Upper School training lab is listed as “StL US Training Lab”.  The lab in Watson is listed as “Elsah Training Lab”.

Use these steps to view the lab calendar when you are scheduling a meeting:

  1. Open Outlook

  2. Switch to Calendar mode

  3. Open an existing or new meeting/appointment

  4. Click on the Scheduling tab

  5. Click on the Add Others button at the bottom of the All Attendees column

  6. Choose Add from Address Book.  The Global Address List (GAL) will open

  7. Type the beginning of the lab name in the Type Name or Select from List field

    1. Type “Elsah” to locate the entry for the Elsah Training Lab

    2. Type “StL” to locate the entry for the StL Business Office Training Lab or StL US Training Lab

  8. Select the appropriate resource and click on the Resources button below the Required and Optional buttons at the bottom of the window

  9. Add other attendees to the Required and Optional lists as desired

  10. Click OK when you are finished.  The calendar for the selected lab will appear on your Scheduling tab similar to inviting an attendee

Once you send the meeting, you will receive a pop-up message indicating the lab (a.k.a. “resource”) has been booked if it is available at the time you schedule your meeting.  Your meeting will then be automatically added to the lab’s calendar, which will help avoid double-bookings of the labs.

NOTE:  Recurring meeting cannot be scheduled using the Resources button.  You must contact the CIS Trainer (x 3261 or x5610) in order to schedule a recurring meeting.

Responsible Persons
The CIS Trainer maintains the Faculty/Staff training labs. The CIS Trainer and/or CIS Technical Support Group, under the direction of the Trainer, will be responsible for adding or removing any and all software used on the computers in these labs. The addition or removal of any software will be executed only after consultation with or notification to the CIS Trainer.

Student Use: Provision for Planned Alternative Activities
Only after all other computer lab resources provided for students have been exhausted, may the Faculty/Staff lab be used for student training or exams. This provision is for occasional use and not meant for repetitive or regular sessions. Scheduling time for this provision must be requested through and approved by the CIS Trainer or in her/his absence, the Technical Support Manager for the campus.
