“Full of unexpected blessings”—that’s how one participant describes Principia Adult Continuing Education (PACE) programs, where individuals like you find open doors to learning, friendship, and inspiration. For 2010, PACE offers not only fresh Summer and Autumn Session classes but two new field programs running concurrently with Summer Session. From Bible study to canoeing on the Mississippi, you’ll find engaging options for adult Christian Scientists of all ages.
Summer Session delivers two weeks of classes—50 in all—sure to pique your interest. In at least a third of the classes, you’ll learn by doing, with hands-on opportunities to create, operate, and imagine. Others are a rich blend of lecture presentations and group discussions. Summer Session is two weeks long, but if you have only a week free, that’s fine. Many people attend for just one of the two weeks.
This year, PACE introduces Experiential Learning Field Programs (concurrent with Summer Session) with a focus on outdoor learning. Active learners eager to escape the traditional classroom setting may choose between field study in the woods and prairies in and around the College campus or off-campus exploration of the landmarks and sites commemorating Lewis and Clark’s expedition. River conditions permitting, Lewis and Clark class members will canoe the Mississippi to get a feel for their adventure. You’ll find more information by following the Experiential Learning Field Programs link.
Autumn Session offers adult learners the unique opportunity to share the College campus with undergraduates. Take classes designed especially for you while simultaneously soaking up—and contributing to—campus life in full swing, including athletic events, Chapel services, and the consumption of Pub milkshakes! Autumn Sessioners stay at the gracious Principia Guest House but eat most meals in the College dining room with the students.
In early November 2011, the luxury cruise ship MS Amalyra will sail up the Rhine from Amsterdam, docking in three different countries along the way. Principia has chartered the entire ship for Christian Scientists and their spouses to learn more about religion, art, architecture, history, and politics. Following the cruise, participants may stay on with the group for a three-day visit to Paris as well.
